In the wake of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, panic has swept through the Democratic Party like a tornado. With mounting pressure on whether President Biden will remain the nominee in the next election, top Democrats are scrambling to defend him. Over the weekend, members of the Biden administration and campaign team took to the Sunday morning shows to reassure the American people that Biden is still capable of running the country.
Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas made an appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” to discuss the border situation and to convince viewers that Biden’s cognitive abilities are not in decline. He went as far as to say that preparing for a meeting with President Biden is the most difficult part because Biden is sharp, intensely probing, detail-oriented, and focused.

Now, let’s be real here. We all have those elderly relatives who are still as sharp as a tack well into their 80s and 90s. But when it comes to Biden, it’s become painfully obvious that his cognitive decline is more than just a matter of age. We’ve witnessed him confuse world leaders, forget the names of people in his own administration, and struggle to string coherent sentences together. It’s a sad sight to behold, and at this point, it’s hard to fathom how the Democrats plan to roll out Biden as their nominee with a straight face.
Vice President Kamala Harris, never one to miss an opportunity, claimed that she’s “ready to serve” should Biden step down. Meanwhile, some in the party are already scouting alternative options, with Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt suggesting Democrats should familiarize themselves with Governor Wes Moore of Maryland.
But fear not, Biden stans! The cavalry has arrived. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has rushed to Biden’s defense, assuring the public that Biden’s mental acuity is just fine. He even had the audacity to claim that Biden’s mental sharpness is as good as it’s ever been. Really, Chuck? We’re supposed to believe that with all the evidence to the contrary?
Unfortunately for Schumer, the American people aren’t buying it. A whopping 86% of Americans believe that Biden is too old to serve another term. And while former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi joined the chorus of Biden defenders, claiming he is a “very sharp president,” even she had to admit that his mental acuity is different in private meetings. Gee, Nancy, we would hope the President knows what’s going on in private meetings. But it seems that the bar for Biden has been set so low that even the bare minimum earns him praise.
As the media slowly starts to sour on Biden, we can expect more top Democrats to rush to his defense. But let’s face it, if the DNC starts to see Biden as a liability in the face of recent polling, they won’t hesitate to yank him and replace him with a more viable alternative. And with his mental decline becoming increasingly apparent, it might just be a matter of time before Biden is gently ushered off the stage.
