As if that weren’t enough, in a shocking turn of events, a woman’s lifelong ambition was cruelly snatched away from her when she was forced into the ring with a biological man posing as a female athlete.
The clash occurred when Italian boxer Angela Carini found herself pitted against Imane Khelif from Algeria, who makes the dubious claim of being “intersex.” Given that Khelif has XY chromosomes, one has to question the fairness of this matchup right out of the gate. Just minutes into the bout, Carini called for time after being overwhelmed. Upon her reluctant return to the fight, she faced another punch, leading to a broken nose and her heartbreaking exit from a competition she had worked her entire life to reach.
