In a stunning move that defies traditional conservative values, three Republican House members are reportedly defending the continued federal funding of Planned Parenthood. These members have expressed their reluctance to cut the financial lifeline to the nation’s leading abortion provider, as part of a broad reconciliation package. It’s a decision that seems to fly in the face of Republican promises spanning decades to defund Planned Parenthood and push back against the left’s agenda.
Rep. Mike Lawler, Rep. Jen Kiggans, and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick have allegedly conveyed their opposition to withdrawing Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. Despite being part of a party that stands for pro-life principles, these moderates appear willing to protect the controversial organization that performs more abortions than any other entity in the country. This is an unacceptable stance for any conservative representative.
It’s baffling to see them take a stand that aligns with liberal talking points, claiming Planned Parenthood provides essential services beyond abortion. But let’s be clear—money is fungible. No matter what allocations are written into funding, any federal support to Planned Parenthood sustains its operations and, by extension, facilitates its abortion services. It also raises the question of fiscal responsibility. Why should taxpayer dollars continue to prop up a radical organization that doesn’t align with America’s core values?

House leadership must include a provision to defund Planned Parenthood in the reconciliation package. This is a critical moment to deliver on promises that have been made to the American people. While there may be political calculations to consider in swing districts, there’s no justification for wavering on such a fundamental issue.
The real question is: if Republicans cannot stand firm on this, then what are they standing for? It’s time for action, not rhetoric. Will these representatives side with conservative principles, or will they continue to cave to liberal pressures?
