Activists Turn Minneapolis into Lawless Checkpoint Zone

A band of left-wing activists turned a Minneapolis street into an unsanctioned checkpoint this week, using furniture, cones and makeshift barricades to stop drivers and scrutinize license plates. Videos and on-the-ground reports show the group checking plates against a database they claimed would identify ICE vehicles before allowing motorists to proceed. This is not peaceful protest — it is the naked replacement of law and order with vigilante theater.

Daily Caller footage and multiple eyewitness accounts show the situation quickly became dangerous when reporters tried to document the scene; Daily Caller reporter Jorge Ventura was shoved and had his phone swatted away while filming the blockade. Activists apparently attempted to intimidate and silence anyone who challenged their self-appointed authority on a public roadway. If journalists can be assaulted for recording this behavior, ordinary citizens are the next victims.

Minneapolis police initially confronted the crowd about allowing emergency vehicles through, but footage shows officers ultimately stepping back while the barricade remained in place; city crews later cleared the obstruction after public outcry. Allowing a mob to dictate who may legally use public streets is a dereliction of duty by any reasonable standard of policing. This episode reflects a disturbing tolerance for lawlessness on the part of local officials.

Make no mistake: this is the predictable result when Democrats celebrate and normalize radical street tactics while turning a blind eye to public safety. The same people who lecture hardworking Americans about civic responsibility now cheer when chaos replaces common sense, and the consequences fall on everyday residents who just want to drive to work or get their kids to school. Political theater that endangers citizens must not be allowed to stand as policy.

Patriots who value law, order and community should demand accountability from elected leaders and prosecutors who tolerate these vigilante checkpoints. Voters must remember which officials stood by while militants usurped public roads and which officials protected constitutional rights and public safety. Our streets, our families and our rule of law are not bargaining chips for political posturing.
