Conservatives should demand accountability for sloppy posting, but we should also be wary of a narrative that rushes to destroy careers without clear facts about who did what and when.
What followed was the predictable bipartisan outrage that feeds the political media machine: prominent Republicans, including Senator Tim Scott, condemned the post in stark terms and called for its removal. That reaction was appropriate given the racist imagery, yet it’s worth noting how quickly the outrage engine revs up for conservatives while similar scandals on the left sometimes receive softer treatment.
Context matters: the clip was attached to a longer, conspiratorial piece about the 2020 election and used pop-culture music and AI to punch up the parody — a late-night repost that fell apart when viewers saw the offensive ending. Americans can reject the racist trope without letting the moment be weaponized into a blanket smear against millions who supported the president.
Patriots who love this country should be crystal clear — racism is wrong and the imagery was indefensible — but we must also call out hypocrisy in how incidents are handled. If a staffer made a grievous error, fire them; if leadership knew and approved it, demand firings and apologies. Yet we must oppose the double standard where conservatives are routinely presumed malicious and ostracized while liberal figures often get a pass.
This is also a moment for conservative leaders to show steady moral leadership: condemn the imagery, insist on consequences for those responsible, and push for consistent standards across the political spectrum. Our movement should not shrink from calling out wrongdoing within our own ranks, but neither should it allow opportunistic media mobs to dictate every outcome.
Hardworking Americans want a politics that defends free speech, rejects racism, and judges people by facts and actions rather than rumor and outrage.
