The alleged attacker is reported to be an Afghan national who entered the country during the chaotic post-2021 evacuations and had ties to CIA-backed units in Afghanistan, raising serious questions about vetting and resettlement policies. This isn’t speculation — it’s the predictable outcome of a reckless policy that prioritized optics over safety and allowed dangerous gaps in screening. Conservatives have warned for years that sloppy vetting is national-security malpractice, and this brutal ambush proves the warning right.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, appearing on Newsmax, rightly called the attack an unspeakable crime and said the Guardsmen were serving a noble purpose protecting the public, traveling to Washington to stand with troops and their grieving families. Patriots across the country owe these Guardsmen and their families our prayers, our respect, and our demand for accountability.
President Trump moved quickly to shore up security, ordering additional Guard troops and pressing for joint patrols with local law enforcement after the attack — the kind of decisive action sensible leaders take when faced with a threat. Meanwhile, out-of-touch elites and certain judges have been busy litigating the presence of the Guard instead of focusing on protecting citizens and those who protect us. Our priority should be to back those on the front lines, not to placate legal posturing that puts bureaucratic niceties above human lives.
Make no mistake: the legal fights over the Guard’s deployment are political theater for the left, and it’s obscene that a judge’s ruling last month could be treated like a higher priority than the safety of Americans on the street. The decision to pause removal of troops until December 11 only underscores how the left prefers process over protection, leaving hard-working Americans and our soldiers to face the consequences. If politicians want to play games with deployments, they should be honest about the trade-offs instead of pretending they’re on the side of public safety.
Today we should stand with the fallen and the wounded, demand real reforms to immigration and vetting, and insist our leaders prioritize the safety of law-abiding citizens and the brave men and women who defend them. The Guard in D.C. served to deter crime and keep neighborhoods safe — that mission is noble, necessary, and worthy of every American’s support. If Washington’s elites won’t defend our streets, then patriots across states must raise their voices and demand a government that puts safety before ideology.
