America’s “Enemy Within”: A Call to Action for Law and Order

Rob Schmitt’s blunt warning that we are “allowing the enemy within to paralyze our cities” isn’t cheap television theater — it’s a wake-up call from a network that has been documenting the rot in our institutions for years. For conservatives tired of excuses, Schmitt’s show is saying what needs to be said: when political elites value optics and appeasement over law and order, communities pay with broken windows and broken lives.

The charge that America faces an “enemy within” has moved from slogan to strategy, after high-profile remarks from national leaders framing violent disorder and lawlessness as internal invasion and arguing for a muscular federal response. That rhetoric has alarmed many, but it also reflects real frustration with mayors and governors who have tolerated chaos on the promise that placating agitators is the morally superior option.

We should not sugarcoat the role of cowardice masquerading as conscience. Schmitt’s critique — that our desperation to protect a caricature of “freedom of speech,” combined with a toxic white-guilt orthodoxy, has allowed domestic terrorists to advance their agendas in broad daylight — hits the mark for anyone who watches the nightly news and sees the same pattern repeating. The mainstream media and academic elites who normalize radical behavior must be held accountable for the consequences of their moral surrender.

This isn’t abstract. The country has seen violent episodes and political violence that the left too often excused or downplayed, and conservatives rightly point to the growing permissiveness toward mobs and threats against civilians. When the political class applauds restraint toward lawlessness while signaling softness on the very people who terrorize neighborhoods, ordinary Americans are left to bear the cost — and to wonder who will defend them.

Washington’s flirtation with heavy-handed options — including talk of using federal forces in urban areas as “training grounds” — is a symptom of how badly local governance has failed ordinary citizens. Whether you cheer or recoil at that language, the underlying truth is simple: when cities are allowed to slide into safe havens for criminality and political violence, the federal government will step in — because defending the rule of law is not a partisan luxury, it is a constitutional duty.

Patriots who actually love liberty understand that rights without security are meaningless. We must demand leaders who will back law enforcement, secure our streets, and stop rewarding chaos with concessions and apologies. The country needs courage and accountability from the top down — and the daily citizens who go to work, raise families, and obey the law deserve nothing less.
