In a delightful turn of events for those keeping an eye on the Democrat Party’s current reality show, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been touted as the most authentic representative of the party’s “core values,” according to a new CNN poll. That’s right—this far-left congresswoman, known more for her Twitter spats and Green New Deal aspirations than any tangible policy achievements, has managed to scrape together ten percent of the vote. She just edged out perennial disappointment Kamala Harris and the socialist grandpa himself, Bernie Sanders, who snagged nine and eight percent, respectively. Who knew that representing the radical wing of a party would earn you the crown?
This poll, conducted among around 500 Democrats and their leaners from March 6-9, shows that the party is, in essence, a race to the bottom of the competitive barrel. It appears these self-identified Democrats are so enamored with the far left that they can’t see anything other than a merry-go-round of extreme views. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries limps in at six percent, and a couple of formerly powerful figures like President Obama and Rep. Jasmine Crockett barely register with a measly four percent each. Talk about a loving embrace of mediocrity!

Surprisingly, not everyone is on board with the radical direction of their party. A staggering 30 percent of respondents didn’t even bother to name a favorite, with one disgruntled voter expressing the sentiment that, frankly, “no one” reflects their views. It’s a lofty statement when one considers that the majority of voters didn’t think any elected official from the Democrat Party is worth endorsing. Could there be a clearer illustration of a party in disarray?
For those who thought the Democrats had hit rock bottom, there’s good news: they seem to have found a way to dig deeper. The same poll indicates that the party’s favorability among Americans has plummeted to a record low of 29 percent. This decline is fueled, in part, by a growing disillusionment from the very supporters who once touted the party’s virtues. The “frustrated supporters” clearly can’t sustain a romance with a party that seems more comfortable advocating climate crises over addressing real human concerns, all while promoting policies that make everyone else’s lives more difficult.
This comedic landscape of what once was a dominant party is a testament to what happens when ideals collide with the swift winds of political reality. Ocasio-Cortez may have won this superficial poll, but the staggering numbers reveal a party clinging to the ideals of its fringiest members.
