In a recent court hearing in Atlanta, a lawyer representing Misty Hampton, a former elections director and co-defendant of former President Donald Trump, went to battle for the public’s right to know. Jonathan Miller, Hampton’s attorney, made a bold move by releasing videos of prosecutors’ interviews with some of their codefendants. He argued that these videos could potentially help his client and insisted that the public had every right to see them.
The Fulton County prosecutors were not pleased with Miller’s actions, and they quickly requested a hearing to address the matter. They initially sought an order to prevent the release of any evidence in the case, but Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee indicated that he might rule differently. This bold move comes after Hampton and 17 others were charged with involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. The indictment alleges a widespread scheme to unlawfully maintain the Republican incumbent in power despite the electorate’s choice of Democrat Joe Biden. Four individuals have already entered guilty pleas, including attorneys Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis, as well as Trump supporter Scott Hall. However, the remaining defendants, including Misty Hampton, have all maintained their innocence.
As part of their plea deals, the individuals who entered guilty pleas agreed to provide testimony in future trials. They sat for video-recorded interviews with prosecutors, providing a sneak peek at their potential testimony. Miller highlighted the significance of this footage during the hearing, underscoring its potential to help his client and enlighten the public about the case.
