French President Emmanuel Macron was left surprised as President Joe Biden left a special event early, escorted by his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, causing a bit of confusion for the European leader.
At the 80th anniversary of D-Day, leaders from around the world gathered on Omaha Beach to remember those who fought and died during World War II. Veterans in their uniforms were ready to greet Biden and Macron when some commotion led to the U.S. president departing early with his wife’s help.

Video clips show President Biden bending down while Dr. Biden, Macron, and his wife Brigitte Macron remained standing. Dr. Biden looked uncertain, but she guided Biden away from the ceremony as Macron went to greet the waiting veterans without his American counterpart.
Despite the unexpected exit, Biden was able to shake some hands and wish a happy birthday to a veteran in a wheelchair. The trip overseas gave Biden a platform to criticize what he called a growing trend of isolationism in the U.S. and globally, taking a subtle swipe at former President Donald Trump.
This incident follows a recent article by the Wall Street Journal expressing concerns about Biden’s mental sharpness during important discussions. Lawmakers from both parties shared worries about the president’s abilities, with even some Democrats like Rep. Gregory Meeks raising questions before reportedly changing their tune after contact from the White House.
