Biden Accused of Granting Mass Amnesty to Over 350,000 Illegal Immigrants

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants have allegedly received "mass amnesty" from the Biden administration. According to reports, the federal administration has closed asylum petitions for more than 350,000 people who entered the country unlawfully since 2022. If the applicants had no past criminal history or were not considered dangers to the United States, their charges were dismissed.

The migrants' requests for asylum are neither approved nor denied under this policy. Their cases are instead "terminated without a decision on the merits of their asylum claim," which enables them to lawfully remain in the country without worrying about being deported. Conservative organizations are concerned about this because they claim it allows these people to avoid the legal system.

The top legal counsel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement directed prosecutors in a memo dated 2022 to dismiss charges involving migrants who were deemed non-threats to national security. Ten times as many cases were dismissed or removed from the docket in 2022 as there were in 2014. There were 149,000 of these cases in 2023, and by 2024, that figure is probably going to rise.

TRAC data shows that 77% of asylum seekers have been granted permission to stay in the nation since President Biden entered office. There are currently 3.5 million asylum cases backlogged, and some perceive the yearly termination of over 100,000 cases as an attempt to enhance the administration's public image.

Center for Immigration Studies' Andrew Arthur denounced the action, calling it "just a massive amnesty under the guise of prosecutorial discretion." Conservatives have criticized this, with many doubting the administration's commitment to upholding immigration laws.

Conservatives are concerned about the termination of these asylum claims because they believe it essentially amounts to widespread amnesty for illegal immigrants. This is interpreted by critics as proof of the Biden administration's lax enforcement of immigration laws.
