Biden Admin Pressures Drop in Surgery Age Limits for Minors

Apparently, the Biden administration believes children should be trusted with life-altering decisions about their bodies before they can even legally drive or vote. While sensible people understand that kids lack the maturity to make such weighty choices, the folks in charge seem to think otherwise. From drinking to getting a driver’s license, society sets age limits for a reason, but proposing similar precautions for irreversible medical procedures on minors is deemed too political.

According to a recent New York Times report, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under Biden pressured the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to drop age limits for “gender-affirming” surgeries. This nudge came from none other than HHS Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine, who lives as a woman but is biologically male. Levine was reportedly very concerned that age restrictions would affect access to these life-changing surgeries.

For anyone with a functioning brain cell, removing age limits on such irreversible procedures is insanity. The WPATH, despite its existing credibility issues, initially proposed age limits such as 15 for mastectomies and 17 for genital surgeries. But that was apparently too restrictive for the administration, which prioritizes the fluid whims of teenagers influenced by social media trends over sensible, protective measures.

Dr. James Cantor, a psychologist critical of these procedures on minors, provided the emails as part of court filings supporting a 2022 Alabama law banning such treatments for those under 18. This law, of course, is being challenged by organizations like the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Southern Poverty Law Center, with the Biden Justice Department also joining the fray. Meanwhile, public sentiment remains starkly divided; many believe children should not make such permanent decisions.

In the final guidelines, WPATH excluded the age minimums, replacing them with vague “criteria” for care. The justification offered reeks of bureaucratic doublespeak, claiming a one-size-fits-all model is inappropriate. Left unsaid was the administration’s role in shaping these guidelines, resulting in yet another example of how public messaging often starkly contrasts with private decisions.

Folks, this isn’t the first time the Biden administration has played fast and loose with public health guidelines. Whether it was involving teachers’ unions in school reopening plans or the murky origins of COVID-19, the current administration’s playbook is clear: moral posturing in public, politically motivated decisions in private. When it comes to the irreversible mutilation of minors’ bodies, the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s a disturbing trend that illustrates the dangers of letting politics override common sense and scientific ethics.
