Biden Administration Denies Knights of Columbus Mass at Virginia National Cemetery

The Biden administration has once again shown its disregard for religious freedom by denying the Knights of Columbus a permit to celebrate a Memorial Day mass in Virginia’s Poplar Grove National Cemetery. This decision by the National Park Service, controlled by the Biden administration, is a violation of the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It’s baffling why the government would prevent a religious group from honoring the nation’s fallen heroes in a long-standing tradition.

This denial of the permit goes against the purpose of Memorial Day, which is a day to honor and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Allowing religious services in a national cemetery should be permitted under the First Amendment, especially when all denominations are given the same opportunity to hold ceremonies. The National Park Service’s classification of religious services as “demonstrations” and its prohibition of such activities in national cemeteries is misguided and unjust.

The decision to deny the Knights of Columbus a permit for their Memorial Day mass is not only discriminatory but also goes against the principles of religious liberty that America was founded upon. It is concerning that a lower-level official within the National Park Service could make a decision that infringes on the rights of a religious group with a long history of honoring veterans. This move sets a dangerous precedent that could restrict the ability of other religious groups to hold ceremonies in national cemeteries.

The National Park Service’s justification for denying the permit is weak and unfounded. Labeling a religious ceremony as a “demonstration” is a misinterpretation of the event and shows a lack of respect for the religious beliefs of the Knights of Columbus. The Biden administration should intervene in this matter and ensure that the Knights of Columbus are allowed to hold their Memorial Day mass as they have done for the past 60 years. Religious freedom must be protected, and the government should not stand in the way of individuals and groups expressing their faith.

It is disappointing to see the Biden administration prioritize political correctness over religious liberty in this situation. Allowing the Knights of Columbus to celebrate their Memorial Day mass would not only be a respectful gesture towards our fallen heroes but also a reaffirmation of the constitutional right to freedom of religion. The government should correct this error and uphold the values that make America a land of liberty and diversity.
