In a recent report by CBS News, it was revealed that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are in a tight race for support in key battleground states. These states include Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. The report also highlighted that the economy and rising prices have become a major concern for voters, with many expressing that they believe they would be in a better financial position if Trump were still in office.
A new poll conducted by Roanoke College’s Institute for Policy and Opinion Research indicated that Trump and Biden are in a dead heat in Virginia. According to the poll, each candidate received 42 percent support from likely voters, with 14 percent indicating they would vote for other candidates and 2 percent remaining undecided. In a five-way matchup including third-party candidates, Biden slightly edged ahead of Trump. Notably, the poll also found that a majority of likely voters believe that Biden legitimately won the 2020 election, yet one-third of respondents attribute his victory to election irregularities.

The survey also shed light on the perception of the Trump and Biden years, with respondents tending to view Trump’s presidency more positively than Biden’s. Specifically, the poll showed that 44% of respondents saw the Trump years as mostly good for the country, while 33% viewed them as mostly bad. Conversely, 25% of respondents regarded the Biden years as mostly good, with 47% considering them mostly bad. It was highlighted that Republicans expressed high enthusiasm for the Trump years, while approximately half of Democrats viewed Biden’s years favorably.
Despite the close race, it is important to note that Virginia has not supported a Republican for president in the past 20 years. The poll surveyed 711 likely voters in Virginia and was conducted between May 12 and May 21, 2024. The margin of error for the poll was noted to be 4.24 percent.
