The Biden administration is reportedly selling off border wall materials worth millions of dollars, all while Republicans are pushing for legislation to complete the wall. The materials, which include steel beams intended for the wall’s 30-foot panels, are being auctioned off on the GovPlanet website. So far, 81 lots have been sold for around $2 million, with more auctions scheduled for later this month.

Former President Trump spent a whopping $15 billion on the construction of 450 miles of the border wall, with an additional 250 miles under construction when he left office. But President Biden wasted no time in halting the project, claiming it was a waste of money and diverted attention from more pressing security threats. However, Republicans argue that the Department of Defense is now spending $47 million annually to store unused wall segments.
In response to this, Senators Ted Cruz, Roger Wicker, and Joni Ernst introduced the Finish It Act, which proposes using the existing wall materials to either extend the border wall or transfer them to states like Texas for similar purposes. The Biden administration’s decision to sell off the materials is seen by some Republicans as an attempt to prevent potential legislation from moving forward.
Republicans are calling out the administration for this move, labeling it as “outrageous” and “wasteful.” Senator Tom Cotton criticized the decision, stating that it leaves the border vulnerable to terrorists, while Senator James Lankford expressed concerns about the broader impacts of an unsecured border. Representative Elise Stefanik voiced concerns over national security and immigration, calling the sales “reckless.”
It seems that the Biden administration’s approach to immigration and border security is facing heavy criticism from conservatives. Representative Nicole Malliotakis accused President Biden of disregarding taxpayer dollars and bankrupting communities across the country with his open border policies. Republican lawmakers are adamant that the border needs to be secure, and selling off border wall materials is not the solution.
