President Joe Biden seems to be taking a parting shot at the energy independence achieved under President Donald Trump, and it’s as if he’s trying to make the next administration’s life as complicated as possible. Just weeks before Trump reclaims the White House, Biden has signed an executive order that effectively locks up millions of acres of offshore waters for oil and natural gas exploration. This latest move, calculated to undermine Trump’s America First energy policies, can only be seen as an act of political spite.
Biden’s executive order places a staggering 625 million acres of U.S. coastal waters off-limits for drilling. This includes nearly the entire expanse of the East Coast, stretching from Maine all the way to Florida, and about 250 million acres off the West Coast, including California and parts of Alaska. This isn’t just an ordinary policy change; it’s a strategic maneuver that seeks to cripple America’s energy production at a time when demand is growing and gas prices are already through the roof.

The incoming Trump administration has made it abundantly clear that it plans to reverse Biden’s ban at the first opportunity. Congressional Republicans, who have long supported boosting domestic energy production, are already gearing up to push back against this blatant act of partisan obstruction. It might seem simple enough to undo Biden’s legacy of green nonsense, but, thanks to the messiness of Washington law, it’s going to require more than just a signature on a piece of paper.
Biden, in a bid to rationalize his decision, claimed that this ban is vital for “protecting” coastal communities and securing a “clean energy economy.” Those phrases sound nice, but they’re not going to buy American drivers a gallon of gas anytime soon. Instead of focusing on the energy needs of the American people, Biden has chosen to cater to radical environmentalists who believe that curtailing drilling is more important than energy independence. This certainly doesn’t sound like the “unity” he promised so often during his campaign.
Trump pledged to act swiftly upon taking office, emphasizing that he will not let Biden’s spiteful actions define American energy policy. His spokesperson even described Biden’s decision as disgraceful and politically motivated, which suits the script perfectly for a leftist administration desperate to push a green agenda at the expense of American livelihoods. The irony of Biden positioning himself as a guardian of the environment while potentially inflating gas prices for working-class families isn’t lost on any clear-thinking American.
As Biden heads out, his legacy appears more about obstruction than innovation, pushing America backward instead of forward. The message from these moves is clear: when it comes to energy and economic growth, Democrats would rather see families struggling than embrace sensible energy solutions. Come January, it will be time for Trump to undo Biden’s attempts to sabotage what should be a booming energy sector and drive America back toward energy independence with a bold plan—one that recognizes the value of the resources beneath America’s feet, not just those atop the White House desks.
