The White House was buzzing with chatter on Thursday as President Joe Biden stirred the pot with his talk of potentially striking a border deal with Republicans. As he prepared to hop on Air Force One and jet off to Illinois, Biden made some eyebrow-raising remarks to reporters about being “open to discussions about the border.” Now, this sent the conservatives into a tizzy as they thought, “What in the world is he up to now?”
Biden was all worked up about his funding requests for Ukraine and Israel in the midst of their international squabbles, but the Republicans weren’t having it. They had their knickers in a twist over Biden’s hefty $106 billion supplemental aid package, especially when it didn’t include the kind of beefed-up border security they were looking for. They huffed and puffed about how unrealistic the White House’s stance was and shouted, “Hey, what about tightening up on asylum and parole too?”

Deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton stepped into the ring to field the barrage of questions about Biden’s comments. But when it came to the GOP, she made it clear they were all about supporting Biden’s border security discussions. However, she didn’t miss a beat in letting everyone know there was no way they were budging on their position about the Republican border proposal. No siree!
