President Biden has once again shown the world his incompetence and lack of knowledge when it comes to international relations. During his meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Biden committed an embarrassing faux pas that was sure to have left Modi fuming.

The President raised his hand to his heart during the playing of India’s national anthem, but left it there for nearly 20 seconds before realizing his mistake. Is Biden so out of touch with international customs that he doesn’t know the proper etiquette when visiting another country? It’s embarrassing and unacceptable.

But perhaps even worse than his lack of cultural awareness was Biden’s slip of the tongue when he referred to Modi as “Mr. President” instead of “Mr. Prime Minister”. Was it just a mistake, or is Biden trying to elevate the Indian leader to a level higher than his actual position? Either way, it’s a sign of disrespect and incompetence.
The purpose of Biden’s visit to India is supposedly to bolster ties between the two countries, but it’s clear that the real goal of the summit is to try to convince India to back Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia. It’s no secret that India has been cozying up to Russia in recent years, despite Western sanctions, so it will be interesting to see if Biden can convince Modi to switch sides.
Of course, it’s not surprising that Biden is trying to get India to side with Ukraine. After all, the President has been weak on Russia since day one of his administration. He’s lifted sanctions and given Putin everything he wants without getting anything in return. It’s clear that Biden just doesn’t have what it takes to stand up to Russia and protect America’s interests.
Perhaps the one bright spot in this mess is that Modi will be addressing a joint meeting of Congress and meeting with President Biden for a state dinner. This is a good opportunity for Republicans to show him what true American values are all about. We need to work with India to protect our interests and keep America safe, but we can’t do it if we don’t stand up for what we believe in.
