Biden Campaign Chair Defends His Bid Amid Democratic Doubts and Faltering Support

President Biden’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, insists that Biden is “more committed than ever” to defeating Donald Trump despite growing calls from Democrats for him to bow out. Speaking on MSNBC, O’Malley Dillon portrayed Biden as the ultimate contrast to Trump, who had addressed the GOP convention in Milwaukee the previous evening.

O’Malley Dillon tried to sell the notion that Biden, 81, remains the best candidate to take on the GOP nominee, a claim that’s becoming harder to believe with every passing day. She emphasized that for Biden, the key to winning is to focus on contrasting his “vision” with Trump’s. Apparently, the Democrats believe that regurgitating the same empty promises and failed policies will somehow win over the American people.

The irony is rich, though, as even key Democratic figures like Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have expressed serious doubts about Biden’s viability as a candidate. It’s almost comical to see the Democratic establishment in disarray over Biden’s cringe-worthy debate performance back in June, which exposed serious concerns about his cognitive capabilities—less than ideal qualities in the oldest U.S. president in history.

The rumor mill is in full swing, with speculation that Biden, currently isolating in Delaware with COVID-19, might step aside by the weekend. Talk is rampant about who might replace him if Vice President Kamala Harris takes the ticket’s top spot. It’s almost like Democrats are preparing an escape plan for a campaign they know is heading for a train wreck.

Even O’Malley Dillon couldn’t completely hide the campaign’s woes, admitting they’ve “seen some slippage in support.” Of course, she downplayed it as “small movement,” but it’s clear the ship is taking on water fast. So while Biden’s loyalists cling to their delusions, the rest of the country watches, popcorn in hand, as this political comedy of errors continues.
