Biden Campaign Uses Jan 6 Officers to Paint Trump as Democracy Threat

President Joe Biden and his campaign are intensifying their efforts to blame the January 6 Capitol riots on former President Donald Trump. They recently released an ad narrated by actor Robert De Niro and announced plans to have three U.S. Capitol Police officers, who confronted the rioters, campaign for Biden in key battleground states. The campaign aims to highlight how Trump reacted after losing the 2020 election and to depict him as a threat to democracy.

Biden’s efforts to portray Trump as erratic and a danger to democracy come at a time when some people believe that Biden himself poses a bigger threat to democracy than Trump. Trump has accused Biden of using the government to undermine his campaign, further fueling the political divide.

The police officers, including Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, Officer Harry Dunn, and Officer Daniel ‘Danny’ Hodges, will travel to key battleground states and meet with local officials and community members to raise concerns about the danger they believe Trump poses to democracy and the potential for political violence under a second Trump term.

These officers experienced the trauma of the Capitol riots firsthand, with Gonell even resigning from the police force due to the mental pressure following the events. Hodges was photographed in a harrowing moment, trapped between a riot shield and a Capitol door, while Dunn, who is now running for a House seat in Maryland, voiced strong criticism against Trump in the Biden campaign release.

In the release, Dunn expressed his belief that Trump’s “unhinged quest for power and retribution poses an existential threat to our democracy,” while misquoting and taking Trump’s statements out of context to bolster their case.
