Biden COVID Aid Mismanagement Sparks GOP Call for Border Wall Funding

Earlier this year, a report from the non-profit Committee to Unleash Prosperity (CTUP) revealed that the Biden administration had made major mistakes in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by Townhall. The report highlighted that the government had given substantial amounts of money to hospitals to help them deal with the pandemic, but many hospitals, especially those in good financial standing, didn’t actually need the aid. This resulted in some hospitals benefiting, while others in greater need were left struggling. Furthermore, a significant portion of the money allocated for COVID-19 relief was left unspent.

On top of this, it was discovered by the Wall Street Journal that there was a significant scandal involving spending on COVID-19. This scandal unveils a great deal of mismanagement and misuse of funds, leaving many Americans concerned about the government’s decision-making during the pandemic.

In response to the unspent COVID-19 funds, Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso introduced a Senate bill proposing the use of these funds to continue constructing a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The measure, known as “The Build the Wall Act of 2024,” aims to create a “Southern Border Wall Construction Fund” using unobligated COVID-19 recovery funds. Barrasso emphasized the effectiveness of border walls in securing the nation and criticized President Biden and Democrats for their perceived lenient immigration policies, which he believes have led to the current border crisis.

As the 2024 election approaches, more Democrats have shown support for border security measures due to its significance to voters. This shift is evidenced by the fact that 15 House Democrats urged President Biden to take executive action to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. The lawmakers highlighted the impact of the border situation on all constituents and called for decisive action, including executive measures, to address border security and manage legal immigration more effectively. This growing concern from Democrats showcases the increasing importance of border security as a national issue, particularly with the border crisis affecting communities across the country.
