In a dramatic shift, the Biden administration is finally acknowledging the threat posed by drug cartels. For years, these violent organizations have wreaked havoc on American streets, trafficking drugs, and committing heinous crimes. Now, Trump’s former National Security Advisor is saying what we all know to be true: these cartels are not just organized crime—they’re a national security threat akin to ISIS. It’s about time Washington recognized the severity of this issue.
The Justice Department is using the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act to target these criminals as they should. The recent indictments against 27 members of the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang deeply entrenched in this crisis, illustrate just how urgent the situation is. They’re not just robbing and killing; they’re running operations that are terrorizing entire communities. This is a fight for our very sovereignty.

Under President Trump, the military has been mobilized to help secure our southern border. Troops are currently assisting border agents, and we’ve seen the deployment of essential military assets aimed at combating these cartels. This marks a decisive and necessary response to the crisis. Meanwhile, the Biden agenda has been a disaster, leaving our borders wide open and allowing these gangs to thrive. Their failed policies are directly responsible for the surge in crime and drugs spilling into American cities.
What makes this situation dire is the new recognition that these groups interact with international terrorists and foreign governments. As their influence grows, so does the national risk. This administration is finally beginning to recognize that these criminal organizations are not just local nuisances; they are operating with a similar mentality and tactics as ISIS. The fact that they are fighting the Mexican army shows how far gone the situation is. It is a war, and it requires a wartime response.
It is commendable that allies in Congress are moving to empower the President to use military force against these cartels. The time for passive observation is long gone. If we can take down foreign terrorist organizations, we surely can handle drug cartels that threaten our way of life. The licensing of the CIA to conduct covert actions against these groups can allow us to dismantle their operations effectively without being bogged down by red tape.
Americans deserve safety from these violent criminals. It’s time to ask ourselves: how many more lives will be lost before the government takes real action? We must treat these cartels with the seriousness they deserve. The very fabric of America is at stake, and letting them flourish is simply unacceptable. The time for action is now.
