In a controversial turn of events, President Joe Biden made headlines during his State of the Union address after a surprising outburst from MAGA conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. As Biden spoke about a Senate border deal, Greene threw Biden off his game by repeatedly shouting for him to mention the name of a Georgia nursing student whose suspected murderer is an illegal immigrant.

The President, visibly caught off guard, paused as he looked over to where he had placed a pin given to him by Greene, displaying the name “Laken Riley.” Biden then appeared to mispronounce the name as “Lincoln Riley” and discussed the tragic loss of the innocent young woman and the issue of illegal immigration.
This interaction is surely to rile up Democrats and left-leaning organizations who oppose the use of the term “illegals” in reference to individuals who have entered the U.S. illegally or overstayed a visa.
Biden’s unscripted response led him to discuss the importance of changing the border dynamic to deter illegal immigration and prevent tragedies like Laken Riley’s death. However, it seems there was a mix-up in Biden’s prepared remarks, as his intended timeline for border cases differed from what was actually stated in the Senate border deal language.
The encounter between Greene and Biden began before the President’s address, when Greene, donning Make America Great Again attire, handed Biden a pin with Laken Riley’s name on it. This interruption by Greene is not the first time she has made her voice heard during a significant political event, as she previously yelled out “liar” during one of Biden’s speeches in 2023.
