The Biden administration has decided to put an end to the construction of President Trump’s border wall in a settlement with open borders groups. Now, it’s no secret that President Biden was never a fan of the wall to begin with. He cancelled the project on his first day in office, making it clear to everyone that the border was open for business. This move sent shockwaves throughout the nation and undoubtedly attracted hordes of immigrants from abroad.
The settlement comes after a long legal battle that started when Trump, fed up with Congress, declared a national emergency and redirected funds from the Pentagon towards the wall. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), representing the Sierra Club and Southern Border Communities Coalition, celebrated the settlement, claiming that the wall was an illegal construction that harmed natural resources and border communities.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to believe that a wall intended to protect our homeland could cause such catastrophic harm. But hey, apparently the ACLU has a different take on things. Luckily for them, and for anyone else who believes that borders are just suggestions, Biden was more than happy to comply with their demands.
As part of the settlement, the administration is not only putting an end to wall construction but also committing to environmental remediation projects. Apparently, this includes building passages for endangered wildlife to pass through. That’s right, folks. We’re diverting funds that were meant to protect our borders to accommodate bison and black bears. Because who needs border security when you have big, cuddly animals?
But don’t worry, the White House has assured us that gates may still be installed for border security purposes. However, they made it clear that razor wire fencing will not be used. Because apparently, sharp, pointy objects are just too mean and they might hurt someone’s feelings. The administration will also have to notify us and provide a reason whenever a gate is closed. I’m sure that’ll stop all the illegal crossings.
It’s worth mentioning that while the Biden administration is busy tearing down walls, Republican states are attempting to force Biden to use funding that was already set aside by Congress for wall construction during the Trump presidency. Now that’s what I call fighting for border security! Let’s hope they succeed because it seems like we could use all the help we can get.
