Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) has outlined five compelling reasons why President Joe Biden will not run for re-election. In his opinion column on Fox News, Chaffetz begins by referencing Biden’s own strange comment about “hibernating” in Iowa. Chaffetz cleverly describes Biden’s 2024 campaign as a perfect fit for hibernation, which is quite fitting considering the lack of energy and enthusiasm Biden has shown so far.

Chaffetz also points out that Vice President Kamala Harris is not likely to succeed Biden as the Democratic nominee. He highlights Harris’ lack of visibility during the first three years of the Biden administration, as well as her minimal portfolio, particularly in solving the immigration crisis and tackling important issues such as AI. Chaffetz emphasizes the vice president’s unpopularity, even though she seems to live in a delusional world where she believes there are polls indicating otherwise.
On Mon., the Biden campaign sent out a press release trying to promote VP Harris via a profile in POLITICO. The same day, @jasoninthehouse’s op-ed pointing to reasons neither Biden nor Harris are running was published by. Both were in @RealClearNews’ AM edition that day. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/aKOXscFPJN

In addition to Chaffetz’s analysis, a press release from the Biden campaign attempts to promote Harris through a POLITICO profile. However, the press release conveniently omits key portions of the article that highlight Harris’ negative public image and rocky tenure as vice president. The article raises the question of whether Harris can make a second impression, but Harris dismisses the question as fundamentally misunderstanding her true self.
Chaffetz highlights the concerns of former and current aides, who privately admit that Harris struggled to find her footing and showcase her talents during her first year and a half in office. There is now a concerted effort to reset Harris’ public image and remind the public of her supposedly hidden qualities. However, her poll numbers remain low, and some Democratic insiders continue to question her place on the ticket, while Republicans are eager to elevate her as a campaign target.
Chaffetz concludes his piece by highlighting other factors that suggest Biden’s reluctance to run again, including a lack of staff support, questionable travel choices, and concerning issues related to Hunter Biden. While Chaffetz refrains from speculating on potential alternatives, there is chatter about other possible candidates, such as Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who may challenge Biden in a primary. Only time will tell who will emerge as the Democratic nominee in 2024.
