House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) made a bold statement, claiming that President Joe Biden’s “countless lies” could potentially be the biggest political scandal in his adult lifetime. Comer expressed frustration at the obstacles faced during congressional investigations, citing interference from Biden attorneys, the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, the media, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, and even the FBI. Despite these challenges, Comer emphasized that new evidence continues to emerge, and there is growing concern about the actions of the current president.
In line with these concerns, Comer recently subpoenaed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secret Service officials. The subpoenas were issued in response to allegations that the Justice Department had tipped off Hunter Biden’s Secret Service detail and his father’s transition team about an interview that investigators wanted to conduct. Comer called for depositions and the submission of documents from six officials, including Secret Service employees and Department of Homeland Security officials.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) joined the conversation, underscoring the multi-faceted approach Republicans were taking in their investigations. He mentioned the efforts of Comer’s committee, his own committee, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith’s (R-MO) work. Jordan emphasized the significance of passing a resolution for an impeachment inquiry, as it would strengthen the courts’ stance on enforcing subpoenas, maintaining that their actions were part of their constitutional duty.
Comer endorsed Jordan’s words and highlighted the overwhelming amount of evidence they had gathered. Additionally, he stated that he had been in discussions with moderate House members who believed there were enough votes to pass an impeachment inquiry resolution. Comer questioned why the White House was creating a war room instead of cooperating with their investigation, asserting that if Biden was innocent and transparent, compliance with their requests should not be an issue. He stressed the credibility of the investigation and the fact that all the information made public so far was previously unknown.
Comer concluded by asserting that they had caught Biden in numerous lies about his involvement in his family’s questionable business dealings. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that they needed to uncover all the facts. Comer expressed optimism that an impeachment inquiry would help them gather the evidence needed for the American people to fully understand Biden’s actions.
