President Joe Biden’s hopes for re-election are quickly fading as he trails former President Donald Trump by a significant margin in several crucial swing states. According to a recent Bloomberg and Morning Consult poll, Biden is currently behind Trump by four percentage points, with Trump leading at 47 percent and Biden at 43 percent among voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. This poll, which surveyed over 5,000 registered voters, has a negligible margin of error.
What makes Biden’s situation even more dire is his poor performance among independent voters in these swing states. In a head-to-head matchup, Biden lags behind Trump by eight points, and if third-party candidates were included, his deficit would widen to 10 points. These numbers reflect a concerning trend for President Biden, as his image and administration struggle with numerous challenges, including conflicts overseas, a slow economy, and a growing migration crisis at home.
Meanwhile, President Trump seems largely immune to the four criminal indictments he currently faces. In Arizona, a state that narrowly went for Biden in the 2020 election, Trump now holds a four-point lead. Similarly, in Georgia, where Biden had a slim victory, Trump’s lead has grown to five percent. Michigan, a state with a mix of blue and purple voters, went to Trump in 2016 but flipped to Biden in 2020. Now, the two candidates are in a statistical tie.
Interestingly, the poll also reveals that a majority of swing state voters (51 percent) believe that the economy thrived under President Trump. They trust him more than Biden (49 percent to 35 percent) to effectively manage the economy. This sentiment is even more pronounced among independent voters, with Trump enjoying a significant 22-point advantage.
