The US military executed the strikes, targeting Kataib Hezbollah militants and destroying their facilities, in an effort to hold them accountable for their heinous actions and degrade their ability to carry out further attacks. The drone strike by the Iran-aligned militants in Erbil, Iraq, resulted in three US casualties, with one service member critically injured. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed his concern for the wounded soldiers and offered his prayers for their swift recovery.
