It’s been two years since Kabul fell to the Taliban, and boy oh boy, what a disaster it was. The Biden administration, of course, wants nothing to do with remembering this colossal failure, but thankfully there are some lawmakers who are determined to make sure Americans don’t forget. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) reminded everyone how Americans and Afghan allies had to flee for their lives, facing the gruesome reality of the Taliban’s rule. It was chaos, with Americans being beaten in the streets, people falling from planes, and 13 brave troops losing their lives. This catastrophic event was the result of one bad decision after another by President Biden and his team, who ignored the advice of military leaders and diplomats on the ground. And you know what’s really infuriating? Biden won’t take responsibility for his mess. Not one person has been held accountable. It’s about time that changes.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) hit the nail on the head when he said that the Biden administration was totally unprepared for the consequences of their hasty withdrawal. The scenes of people desperately holding onto planes and mothers having to leave their children behind were horrifying, not to mention a complete embarrassment to our country on the world stage. This weakness only emboldened our enemies. Fitzpatrick, like many others, is committed to holding those responsible for this epic failure accountable. We cannot allow something like this to ever happen again, no matter who is in charge.
Even Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) acknowledges the devastating impact of Biden’s botched withdrawal. He shared a heartbreaking letter from a Gold Star Mother, Kelly Barnett, who described the confusion, deceit, and heartbreak that so many service members and their families felt. McCarthy emphasized the importance of providing answers and accountability, rebuilding our nation’s honor, and earning back the trust of those who risk everything for our safety. He called on his colleagues to pray for all the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan and for everyone who was harmed by this disastrous withdrawal.
As a conservative writer, it infuriates me that our country was left in such a vulnerable position due to the incompetence of the Biden administration. They put our national security at risk and betrayed our allies. It’s time for accountability, justice, and a commitment to never repeating this colossal failure. Let’s pray for the lives lost and for our country to regain its strength and honor.
