Joe Biden has seemingly abandoned the White House, opting for the sun-soaked shores of Rehoboth Beach like a president who just couldn’t handle the heat. In a dramatic twist, Biden revealed back in July that he would not pursue a second term as president. This came after weeks of confidently asserting he was in it for the long haul, only to crash and burn spectacularly during a debate that left even his supporters wondering if they were dreaming. Then came the Democratic National Convention, where his farewell performance was denied primetime status, and he all but handed over the reins to Kamala Harris while making a hasty exit before the likes of the Obamas and Nancy Pelosi could sing his praises—or perhaps, plot his political demise.

In a week filled with turmoil, the tragic loss of American-Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin occurred, but Biden’s prime concern appeared to be getting back to his vacation home where the sun was shining, and the tidal waves were crashing—sounds like a great escape from national emergencies.
In a political landscape marked by Biden’s conspicuous absence from leadership, questions are erupting over who is actually calling the shots. With Biden off sunbathing yet again—now on his second vacation in two weeks—Texas Republican Wesley Hunt has joined the chorus of confusion, amusingly pointing out that while Biden is off enjoying his leisurely days, Kamala Harris seems to be preparing for her first interview in 40 days. It’s a curious arrangement for a nation needing clear direction amid chaos.
John Kirby, Biden’s national security spokesman, took center stage attempting to reassure the masses that the president is “never out of the loop.” Whatever that means. One wonders if Kirby truly believes the slick lines he’s feeding the public—after all, trying to convince America that a man is fully in command while he’s sunbathing doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
After his extended beach frolic, Biden finally returned for some much-needed political campaigning in Pittsburgh alongside Kamala Harris, presumably to remind voters he’s still around. But with Harris preparing for interviews in her spare time and Biden cozying up in a beach cabana, the American people are left wondering just who’s keeping the presidential ship afloat—because with this combo, it sure doesn’t feel like anyone is at the helm.
