The Biden administration’s attempt to claim the term “Bidenomics” and declare its success is crumbling under the weight of reality. Despite their efforts to spin the narrative, everyday Americans are feeling the pinch in their wallets. Prices for goods and services have skyrocketed, with the average American now paying $709 more per month compared to just two years ago. It’s no wonder that views of the economy are overwhelmingly negative, as only 30 percent of respondents in a recent poll approved of Biden’s handling of the economy.
The White House’s spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, may have been sent out to defend the administration’s flaccid talking point, but the numbers speak for themselves. Inflation has surged under Biden, with prices rising at double-digit rates. Since taking office, prices have increased by a staggering 17.4 percent, while hourly wages have only increased by 13 percent. The only president in recent history to have a higher inflation rate at this point in his term was Jimmy Carter, and we all know how well his presidency turned out.
Despite some minor improvements from last year’s record-breaking highs, inflation is still on the rise. And it’s hurting hardworking families who are struggling to keep up with the ever-increasing costs. While Biden may claim to be lowering costs, the reality is that prices are still going up, just at a slower pace. The American people want to see prices drop, not just slow down a little. It’s no wonder that nearly 60 percent of people blame Biden for this mess, as he ignored warnings and admitted that he regretted branding one of his spending bills as the “Inflation Reduction Act.”

These abysmal economic numbers should be a cause for concern for Democrats, but they managed to salvage their performance in the last midterm elections despite similar circumstances. However, the GOP’s underperformance can’t be ignored this time around, and a Biden-Trump rematch is the last thing voters want. It would be an exhausting battle of who is worse, and Americans intuitively understand that neither candidate is fit for the job.
In the end, the reality of Bidenomics is far from what the administration wants us to believe. The American people are feeling the effects of rising prices, and their negative views of the economy reflect that. Biden’s policies have only made matters worse, and the damage may be irreversible. It’s time for a change in direction, but it remains to be seen if voters will make that choice in the upcoming elections.
