Biden’s $42B Internet Fiasco: Big Gov Gone Wild or Taxpayer Trap?

President Biden has once again shown his love for big government with his latest proposal – providing high-speed internet access to everyone. But let’s not get too excited just yet. This is yet another example of a government boondoggle that will only serve to waste taxpayer money and expand the scope of federal power. And to make matters worse, it’s likely unconstitutional.

The Biden Administration announced plans to spend $42 billion to ensure universal high-speed broadband by 2030. The funds will be allocated to each state, with a minimum of $107 million going to each state. While the goal of expanding internet access is admirable, it’s not the federal government’s job to do so. The Tenth Amendment clearly states that powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved for the states. But when it comes to expanding their power, the federal government always finds a workaround.

The Biden Administration is justifying this boondoggle by claiming that high-speed internet is a necessity. But is it really? Are people dying or getting seriously ill because they don’t have access to high-speed internet? Of course not. This is just another example of the federal government overstepping its bounds and using taxpayer money to subsidize people’s conveniences. The role of public assistance should be to help those in need, not provide them with the latest technological gadgets.

But here’s the kicker – most of the country already has high-speed internet. Even in remote places like Alaska, there are options available. Elon Musk’s Starlink already covers the whole state, although it may be expensive. And in the Susitna Valley, they have perfectly adequate DSL service. So why does the government need to spend money on equipment? If they’re determined to do something, why not simply subsidize existing service?

The answer is simple – sweetheart deal contracts. By spending money on new equipment, the government can hand out contracts to their buddies and line their pockets. And mark my words, the calls for more money have already begun. State officials are already claiming that the allocated funds won’t be enough to cover their infrastructure projects. And as history has shown us, the initial funds will only be the beginning. The floodgates will open, and the federal government will continue to spend more and more taxpayer dollars.

It’s frustrating to see this kind of wasteful spending, but it’s even more frustrating to see that people keep voting for it. Politicians know that promising free stuff is an easy way to win votes. It’s hard to take a stand against Santa Claus. But as conservatives, it’s our duty to speak out against these boondoggles and fight for limited government and fiscal responsibility. Let’s hope that more Americans wake up to the reality of these big-government schemes and demand accountability from their elected officials.
