President Biden’s popularity continues to plummet as voters in Michigan and Georgia express their dissatisfaction with his leadership. In a recent CNN poll, former President Donald Trump is leading over Mr. Biden in both states, with a notable 10-point lead in Michigan and a 5-point lead in Georgia. This comes as a major blow to the Biden administration, as he had won both swing states in his path to victory in 2020.
The economy, along with inflation, has been a significant factor in Mr. Biden’s declining approval ratings. Despite a recent moderation in inflation, voters are still feeling the pinch of higher prices and are attributing the blame to the current administration. A staggering 56% of Michigan voters and a similar percentage in Georgia believe that Mr. Biden has worsened the economy, while only a fraction feel that he has made any positive impact.
To exacerbate the situation, Mr. Biden’s handling of the economy is being viewed unfavorably across the board. A CBS News/YouGov poll showed that 62% of respondents disapprove of Mr. Biden’s economic management. This sentiment is echoed in the views of young voters, with 38% citing the economy as their primary concern.

Adding insult to injury, Mr. Biden’s advanced age has become a focal point of criticism. An overwhelming majority of Michigan voters expressed concerns about his sharpness and stamina, with a whopping 69% stating that his qualities are not what they want in a president. This sentiment highlights the growing desire for a change within the Democratic Party.
While Mr. Biden and his party have tried to shift the focus to defending democracy and condemning former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the results have been underwhelming. When asked which party would better protect democracy, there was no discernible difference in the responses, indicating a lack of confidence in the Democratic Party’s ability to safeguard democratic values.
Furthermore, the president’s standing among key demographics such as Muslim voters has taken a hit, with dissatisfaction arising from his handling of international issues, particularly the Israel-Hamas conflict. This discontent further contributes to the erosion of support for the Biden administration.
In light of these developments, it’s evident that President Biden is facing an uphill battle as he seeks to rally support for his administration. The current polling data serves as a stark warning for the Democratic Party in the lead-up to the 2024 election, with Mr. Biden’s prospects looking increasingly bleak in pivotal swing states.
