The Senate has once again kicked the can down the road to avoid a government shutdown, passing the fourth continuing resolution (CR) of the fiscal year. President Joe Biden now has another chance to sign off on this temporary band-aid solution. It seems like Democrats and Republicans can never get it together to pass a proper budget like responsible adults.

It’s a circus in Congress with neither the Senate nor the House of Representatives managing to pass any of the 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government for Fiscal Year 2024. This means more and more CRs are being thrown around like confetti at a carnival. Instead of doing their jobs and passing a real budget, they keep relying on these short-term fixes. It’s like trying to fix a leaky roof with duct tape – it might hold for a while, but eventually, it’s going to come crashing down.
Of course, the Democrats are trying to spin this as some kind of victory, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer patting himself on the back for reaching an agreement with Republicans. But let’s be real here, this is just another example of kicking the can down the road and avoiding the tough decisions that need to be made. It’s like trying to sweep dirt under the rug and pretending the mess isn’t there.
The clock is ticking, and it’s only a matter of time before we’re back in this same situation again. The Democrats and Republicans need to stop the political theater and actually work together to pass a responsible budget. It’s time to put the needs of the American people first, instead of playing games and passing the buck. Let’s hope they get their act together before the next deadline looms, or the American people will be the ones left holding the bag.
