The Democratic primary in Michigan is heating up, and it’s not looking good for President Biden. According to a recent preelection poll, the “uncommitted” campaign seems to be gaining momentum, especially among younger voters who have concerns about Biden’s support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas and worries about his age.

The Emerson College Polling/Hill survey revealed that up to 16% of voters in the primary could choose the “uncommitted” option, a significant increase from previous polls. Additionally, the survey found that a whopping 28% of voters under 30 are planning to vote as “uncommitted” in the primary – a major blow to Biden’s support among younger demographics.
The survey also indicated that Biden is trailing former President Donald Trump in the fall head-to-head test, with Trump leading by 46% to 44%. With Michigan being a crucial swing state, this could spell trouble for Biden’s reelection prospects. Although he narrowly won the state in 2020, the current numbers are not looking favorable for his chances in 2024.
The “uncommitted” campaign, backed by influential figures like Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, poses a serious challenge to Biden’s leadership within the Democratic Party. The support for this movement has been growing as concerns about Biden’s age and memory have been amplified by special counsel Robert Hur’s report.
Despite the potential embarrassment Biden could face if the “uncommitted” movement gains traction in the primary, there is a glimmer of hope for the president. While trailing Trump, Biden has narrowed the gap from previous polls, with the former president holding a 47%-41% lead last month. However, it’s evident that the momentum is shifting away from Biden, and the upcoming primary results will be closely watched by political observers.
