Conservatives are gearing up to give President Joe Biden an earful as he gears up to deliver his State of the Union address on Thursday. They’re not holding back, either – they’ve shelled out a boatload of cash for a six-figure TV ad campaign that aims to remind the public about the serious consequences of the growing border crisis.
Building America’s Future, a right-leaning group, is planning to sandwich the president’s speech with two hard-hitting video ads that lay out just how destructive the Biden administration’s immigration policies have been. The ads will highlight the tragic story of Laken Riley, a nursing student from Georgia who was brutally murdered while out on a run. The suspect in her case, Jose Ibarra, was an illegal immigrant who had been released after crossing the border illegally and then let go by local police in New York City after being arrested for endangering a child while riding a moped with his five-year-old son last year.

The narrator in the ad pulls no punches, bluntly stating, “Laken Riley should have been able to go on a run in broad daylight without being murdered by an illegal immigrant. But Joe Biden promised not to deport illegal immigrants.” The ad goes on to call out Biden’s previous promises and actions, highlighting his vow not to deport or detain illegal immigrants, and his stance against federal immigration officials taking action against those who have been arrested for non-immigration related crimes.
The ads are set to air not just nationally, but also in key battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Republicans in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina have been particularly vocal about the issue of immigration, with the border crisis ranking as their top concern, according to polling data. The sentiment is widespread, with the majority of voters from all parties seeing illegal immigration as a very serious or somewhat serious problem, according to a recent poll from Monmouth University’s Polling Institute.
The tension around the border crisis has only been fueled by recent visits from both Biden and likely 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to the southern border. It’s clear that this issue is not going to fade into the background anytime soon, and conservatives are making sure their voices are heard loud and clear.
