The Democratic Party’s turbulent implosion is playing out like a bad reality TV episode this week, and the June 27 presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump was the gaudy climax. The event, attracting a staggering 51 million viewers, only served to highlight Biden’s myriad gaffes and apparent signs of cognitive decline, which the media has been trying to cover up for years.
Once hidden behind a veneer of journalistic spin, Biden’s crumbling mental faculties were laid bare for all to see, leading to an almost instant freefall in his poll numbers. Describing this downturn as a “collapse” seems to undervalue the spectacle of it all—it’s more like a free fall from the stratosphere without a parachute. The calls from within his own party for Biden to step aside have reached a fever pitch, with both Democrats and their donors making their discontent increasingly vocal.

Adding insult to injury, Biden’s campaign suffered another indignation on Thursday at the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Intended as a rousing rally for “Reproductive Freedom,” the event was slated to draw a robust crowd of Biden supporters. Instead, it resembled more of a poorly attended book club meeting, with a paltry three participants showing up, outnumbered by the four reporters covering the non-event.
Even conservative commentators couldn’t contain their amusement as photos from the so-called rally made the rounds. The scene depicted a lonely trio of Biden enthusiasts while more journalists hovered around hoping for a story that would never materialize. This sad display only underscored the lack of enthusiasm Biden generated and raised the question of why support a candidate who appears to be sleepwalking through his presidency?
Furthermore, it alarmingly shines a light on the fact that Democrats might be misjudging their flagship issues, such as abortion rights. If the so-called “right” to terminate a pregnancy can’t even gather a handful of supporters at a state capitol, perhaps it’s not the winning ticket they thought it was. The Democrats are a staggering spectacle of disarray, and Republicans would do well to exploit this.
Yet, let’s not get too complacent. The GOP has a rich history of fumbling golden opportunities, particularly as it veers leftward. Republicans must remain vigilant and capitalize wisely on the staggering chaos enveloping the Democratic Party. Missing out on seizing this moment could have devastating consequences for the political landscape and, more importantly, the country.
In closing, one must marvel at how far the mighty have fallen. Democrats have gone from commanding the national stage to orchestrating events that draw more crickets than constituents. If there ever was a time for Republicans to unite and push forward strategically, it’s now. Let’s not squander this golden, chaotic opportunity.
