President Joe Biden is taking a page straight out of the obstructionist playbook as he pulls out all the stops to undermine the incoming administration of President-Elect Donald Trump. With the ink barely dry on the November election results, it appears Biden has decided to play gatekeeper in the immigration arena, prioritizing the protection of illegal immigrants over enforcing the law. His latest stunt? An announced deportation “shield” that would keep nearly a million undocumented individuals snugly in their American haven.
This so-called “shield” isn’t made of steel; it’s crafted from the very policy whims of the Biden administration. What Biden aims to do is extend grace to illegal immigrants, giving them an extra 18 months to nestle in the United States despite Trump’s promise to tackle the illegal immigration crisis head-on. The New York Post reported that these lucky individuals include migrants from regions like Sudan, Ukraine, El Salvador, and Venezuela—where, as we’ve come to learn, gangs like Tren de Aragua thrive. It’s hard to see how this fits into an agenda that prioritizes the American people.

Biden’s magic number reaches nearly a million, as he tosses out Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 1,900 people from Sudan, over 100,000 from Ukraine, and a staggering 600,000 from Venezuela. All of this appears to be cloaked in the excuse of mitigating the aftermath of environmental disasters, as if those disasters give carte blanche to ignore the rule of law. Alarming as it might be, the lasting consequences of decisions like these are turning a blind eye to immigration control, all while taxpayers are left to shoulder the burden.
There’s no doubt that Biden has been crafting quite the narrative of a “smooth transition,” but when one looks closely, it appears to be a ruse. His recent actions, including a heavy-handed ban on oil and gas drilling, suggest he’s doing everything in his power to throw a wrench into Trump’s plans. The ban covers over 625 million acres of coastal and offshore waters, a strategic maneuver intended to tie Trump’s hands when it comes to reversing it. The irony is palpable, as Biden encourages job growth in green energy while simultaneously stripping down energy independence, all for the sake of what—temporary political gain?
Ultimately, it raises an important question: how much longer can Biden engage in these political monkey-wrenching antics before they become a growing liability? Trump has vocalized his plans to reverse these policies the moment he takes office, but Biden’s entrenched position may very well make that easier said than done. In attempting to stall Trump’s immigration and energy policies, Biden may inadvertently become the poster child for governmental overreach. Time will tell if these maneuvers will deliver short-term applause on the left or create a long-term backlash as Americans face the consequences of hindered leadership.
