The Biden administration is once again playing politics instead of prioritizing national security. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has supposedly identified new threats, but they conveniently forgot to inform lawmakers about them. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green and his fellow Republican colleagues are demanding answers after they learned about the threats from news reports instead of being briefed by the Biden administration.

According to a threat bulletin issued by the San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit of Customs and Border Protection, individuals inspired by the Israel-Hamas conflict could be exploiting our porous Southwest border to travel to or from the Middle East. Shockingly, this critical information was not shared with the Homeland Security Committee. Instead, Chairmen Green, Pfluger, and Higgins had to find out through the news. It’s no wonder they’re demanding answers from Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
It’s concerning that the Biden administration failed to communicate this vital information to lawmakers. The Department of Homeland Security should have been briefing the committee regularly, considering the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. But instead, they kept important updates to themselves, leaving our national security at risk. It’s clear that the Biden administration would rather play politics than protect American lives.
This incident once again highlights the glaring vulnerabilities at our Southwest border. The Republican members of the Homeland Security Committee have serious concerns about the security of our border and the potential for terrorists to exploit the Biden administration’s open border policies. We need strong border security measures to prevent any threat from slipping through the cracks.
As lawmakers demand answers, Chairmen Green and Pfluger have requested documents and communications about the identified threats and the DHS employees involved. The Biden administration has until November 1 to respond. Let’s hope they take this situation seriously and prioritize the safety of our country over their own political games. America deserves better than this.
