In a recent appearance on CNN, Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie didn’t hold back in blaming President Joe Biden for the current state of the economy. Dubbing Biden as “the Jimmy Carter of the 2020s,” Christie pointed out that everything in the market is currently “17% more expensive” than when Biden took office. He also highlighted the fact that interest rates are currently at their highest point in 25 years. According to Christie, these economic conditions have made it increasingly difficult for Americans to make important investments in their lives, such as purchasing a new car or home.
Christie, who previously served as the governor of New Jersey, emphasized that he has experience handling a troubled economy and successfully tackled it by balancing the budget and avoiding tax increases. He believes that the U.S. economy can be fixed, but it requires someone who truly understands how to do it.

These criticisms from Christie come as inflation has dropped to a 3% annual rate, as measured by the Federal Reserve’s preferred gauge. This is a decline of 0.8 percentage points from the previous month and the lowest reading since September 2021. However, Biden seemed to make light of the falling inflation, joking that it might catch the attention of Republicans in Congress. This jesting by the president comes at a time when there are rumors of Republicans potentially seeking to impeach him.
A recent poll indicated that a significant number of likely voters, approximately 72.5%, believe that both the cultural and economic state of the United States is in decline. The poll also revealed that a vast majority of Republicans, 91.7%, share this belief, compared to only 5.8% who do not. Interestingly, over half of the Democrats surveyed, 50.7%, also believe that the country is in decline, while 38.3% do not agree. These findings highlight the widespread concern that many Americans have about the current state of the nation.
