One of President Joe Biden’s biggest Hollywood elite supporters, who happens to be a raging, radical liberal with no sense of reality, made quite the claim regarding the 2024 presidential election. Actor Rob Reiner, known for his outlandish opinions and lack of connection to the real world, insisted that the only way “democracy can survive” is if former President Donald Trump is convicted and imprisoned, and no third-party candidates run against Biden. It’s ironic that Reiner’s call for silencing opposition and suppressing political competition is exactly what constitutes a real threat to democracy.

Unsurprisingly, Reiner faced intense backlash for his ridiculous and asinine statement. Social media lit up with commentators from multiple outlets tearing apart Reiner’s tweet. Glenn Greenwald didn’t waste any time pointing out the absurdity of Reiner’s claim. He noted that it’s interesting to see Democrats, who often claim to be “defending democracy,” actually advocating for actions that are anything but democratic, like imprisoning their political adversaries and censoring the internet.

The backlash didn’t stop there. The Constitutional Conservative, a voice for true conservatives, called Reiner out for his fascist mentality. Claiming that democracy can only survive by imprisoning political opponents and suppressing third-party options is a blatant attack on the freedoms and rights that make our country great. Reiner’s continuous delusions are evident in his past statement that Biden is the “best president since Lyndon B. Johnson.” That level of crazy is truly unmatched.
Reiner’s outrageous claims and statements have been subject to multiple fact-checks and “community notes” additions on X, formerly known as Twitter. It’s no surprise that his posts often fall short on truth and reality. It’s clear that Reiner is out of touch with the average American and the principles that our democracy was built on.
If Biden were to drop out or be unable to run in 2024, it would be interesting to see what happens. Perhaps then Reiner and his Hollywood elite friends will finally realize that their radical ideas and attempts to suppress opposition only end up threatening the very democracy they claim to protect.
