Biden’s Immigration Promises Fueled Crisis, Ignored Warnings Show

The New York Times has quietly published reporting showing that Joe Biden’s own advisers warned him in August 2020 that the immigration promises he was making on the campaign trail risked triggering a surge at the southern border — a surge that could “create chaos” and overwhelm federal capacity. That revelation undercuts the sanitized narrative Democrats and their media allies have long fed the country about how the border crisis “just happened” and wasn’t foreseeable.

According to the reporting, the August 2020 memo specifically warned that a post-election surge could create a humanitarian crisis and suggested concrete deterrent options — like reception centers, faster asylum rejections, and requiring some migrants to wait in Mexico — measures the Biden circle ultimately let die on the vine. The paper’s own documents and sources lay waste to the notion that Biden lacked notice or that his team didn’t understand the tradeoffs in treating border policy as political theater.

But the New York Times piece also makes clear that those internal cautions were ignored, that the memo “died,” and that the administration repeatedly chose political optics over enforcement. The result was predictable: record migration, overwhelmed Border Patrol stations, and local communities left to pick up the tab while Washington looked the other way.

The consequences weren’t theoretical. Independent estimates and reporting show the unauthorized population swelled to historic levels during the Biden years, straining housing, social services, and public safety in cities that had to take in thousands of arrivals. Americans from border towns to blue-state big cities saw hotels filled with migrants and taxpayer coffers stretched thin — the bill for this experiment in open-handedness landed squarely on ordinary citizens.

Megyn Kelly and guest Walter Kirn rightly called out the timing and tone of the Times’ revelations, noting that the paper is only circling back now in a way that conveniently reframes responsibility to target the Trump-era response instead of admitting the left’s own mistakes. Their point is simple and fair: if this was newsworthy, why wasn’t it front-page before the political fallout that defined the last election cycle? The mainstream press’s selective memory is political theater, not journalism.

This episode is a textbook case of media malpractice: an establishment outlet finally admits inconvenient facts and then tries to package them as a broader moral lesson while soft-pedaling the culpability of their preferred politicians. Patriots who work for a living see what’s happening — elites make decisions that weaken borders and then use late-breaking “revelations” as cover when the truth becomes politically useful. The country deserves honest reporting and accountable leadership, not revisionist history wrapped in prestige by the same institutions that failed to warn us in time.
