Biden’s Late-Night Snoozefest: Are We in a Golden Girls Rerun or a State of the Union?

The Biden administration has seemingly entered a new phase—one that has many Americans feeling like they’ve stuck their heads into a time machine and emerged right back into the era of reruns. It appears that President Biden’s latest address was so senior-citizen friendly that it began in the slot usually reserved for aging sitcoms desperate to scrape together their last few laughs. Yes, that’s right; old Joe took to the airwaves at the glorious hour of 11:28 PM, leaving viewers to wonder if this was a state of the union or merely a late-night infomercial for denture adhesive.

It’s hard to ignore the irony of the timing. While the nation is grappling with serious issues, the President’s grand reveal of policies sounded more like an invitation to watch “Golden Girls” for the third time than a compelling call to action. After all, who wouldn’t prefer a laugh about Blanche’s dating escapades over yet another round of predictable Biden-isms droning on about economic recovery that feels more like a mirage than reality?

Much of the country has grown tired of the antics that have become the hallmark of this administration. Between inflation rates that threaten to turn every trip to the grocery store into a fiscal crisis and gas prices rising higher than a kite in a windstorm, citizens were likely flipping through channels in search of something—anything—that didn’t involve the President’s half-hearted promises. Instead of compelling leadership, they got a bedtime story that would have made even the most devout insomniacs nod off.

Of course, it’s not going unnoticed that Biden’s prime-time bump down to the late show coincides perfectly with a series of unfortunate polls that suggest his approval ratings might warrant a rerun rather than a live broadcast. Many are starting to wonder if the writer’s room for the administration has officially run dry. Where’s the punchline, folks? Where is the excitement that was promised during the campaign trail?

All eyes are now glued to the next episode in this ongoing saga. With Biden’s prime-time script clearly in need of a refresh, it’s a safe bet that viewers will be eagerly flipping channels, hoping that the future can hold something more entertaining—perhaps a politically charged debate featuring a strong conservative voice instead of another installment of the Biden show. Until then, everyone brace yourselves: it seems we’re going to be stuck in this rerun cycle for quite a while.
