U.S. officials at the southern border have shared that more people are illegally crossing after President Joe Biden announced new rules for asylum seekers. Reports say that on the first day after Biden’s orders were made, there was an increase in the number of people crossing illegally into the country.
Cameras from a news station along the U.S.-Mexico border caught hundreds of migrants coming through holes in the fencing. They were seen waiting for officials from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to come pick them up. This video, recorded along the San Diego corridor, shows that President Biden’s stricter words against migrants may not be stopping them, with more than 9 million migrants arriving since his presidency began.

Conservative critics see this surge in illegal crossings as a failure of Biden’s immigration policies. They believe that his executive order will not effectively address the border crisis. According to CPB sources, there were about 4,000 illegal crossings in just one day, along with 1,500 crossings at official entry points. Some fear that the new rules will only lead to more confusion and encourage more people to cross illegally.
Progressive Democrats, however, are criticizing President Biden for possibly going back on his promises for a more lenient immigration approach. They argue that the new restrictions hurt migrants who are seeking safety in the U.S. The debate over immigration policy is creating divides within the Democratic Party, with some members expressing concerns that Biden’s actions are not enough.
As the 2024 election approaches, immigration remains a major concern for voters. Recent polls show that many Americans rank border control as one of their top issues. Incidents like the tragic killing of a University of Georgia student by a recent migrant have only added to the tension. Many conservatives believe that President Biden’s handling of the border situation has been ineffective and puts American citizens at risk.
