The Biden administration has introduced a new program that is raising concerns among conservatives as it appears to facilitate illegal immigration. The program allows immigrants to use a mobile app to select a destination and then fly on “ghost flights” to their chosen US city. According to recent records, over 210,000 applicants have been processed since January, which is equivalent to the population of Rochester, New York.
The Center for Immigration Studies released a report indicating that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is encouraging aspiring illegal border-crossers to make appointments with US officials at land ports of entry using the CBP One app. Once they arrive at the land ports, the inadmissible aliens are quickly “paroled” into the US and allowed to travel to a city of their choice in the country’s interior. This process enables them to bypass the negative press reports that often accompany immigrants crossing the border on foot.

One of the main concerns about this program is the lack of transparency. The DHS has not disclosed the specific cities where these immigrants are heading, leaving the public and conservative commentators in the dark. The CIS report reveals that some cities are seeing a significant influx of immigrants due to this program, with one undisclosed city receiving the majority of the flights. While it is strongly suspected that Miami may be one of the preferred airports for these flights, the redacted information makes it difficult to confirm.
This program differs from the Biden administration’s strategy of “ghost flights” into cities late at night, which has also faced criticism. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas recently accused the Biden administration of cutting razor wire that the state had previously installed in the border area of Eagle Pass, calling it a move that “opened the floodgates” for illegal immigrants.
Democrats are increasingly voicing concerns about the influx of migrants into American cities as well. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey declared a state of emergency over the migrant crisis in her state, blaming the federal government for its lack of action.
