These investment firms manage $20 trillion in capital and use their clout to dictate major political changes to the companies they profit from. So, when liberal politicians demand that pension funds be divested from things like fossil fuels, these firms must comply and adapt on the companies they manage. Even more troubling is when investment firms tell major businesses to commit to things like diversity, equity, and inclusion, and adopt firm-wide commitments that are then forced onto all the major companies in corporate America.

The result of this political and potentially alarming change in direction has not only impacted the financial back-end of these businesses, but it’s also causing significant reputational damage. Companies like Target and Bud Light are being seen by the public as “sell-outs” who favor leftist politics and preaching over their loyal customer base. Target CEO Brian Cornell claimed that adopting woke culture was good for the bottom line, yet the company’s stock plunged and they lost over $13 billion in market value. Additionally, Bud Light lost almost 30 percent of its sales volume.

Citizens should be able to decide things through free and fair elections, not through the small group of asset managers and CEOs dictating how people should live their lives. So, what can be done to put an end to this troubling trend? Frericks suggests that people should boycott these companies to show their distaste for leftist politics leaking into all aspects of society. But ultimately, the behind-the-scenes push is coming from the Democrats, and until that changes, the leftist agenda will continue to infect everything around us.
