It seems that Hollywood’s fascination with Trump has transformed certain celebrities into residents of an exclusive club known as Trump Derangement Syndrome. While some may regard these developments with concern, there’s a compelling case to be made for the positive impact that President Trump has had on these stars. The humor lies in their transformation, akin to an unintended health regimen.
Take Rosie O’Donnell, for instance. Once a staple on television with her talk show and magazine endeavors, Rosie failed spectacularly by some accounts. Trump famously critiqued her with his vintage sharp tongue, causing Rosie to make headlines in a way that no workout or diet could achieve. It seems that Rosie’s post-Trump look and self-proclaimed unrecognizability have done wonders for her transformation — even if it’s only skin deep.
Kathy Griffin also finds herself under the bright lights, possibly a lingering effect of her infamous stunt with a faux president’s head years back. While opinions about her look may vary, it appears that her TDS membership has kept her in the cultural conversation. Even if Kathy resembles a character straight out of a horror movie, it’s her continued presence in the discussion that stands out.
Admittedly, Robert De Niro might be feeling some unintended side effects too. Known for his critical comments about Trump, he has continued to remain in the spotlight with his sharp critiques. Though he may lament the political climate, his constant presence in discussions keeps him relevant.
One might suppose, if nothing else, that Trump’s long-lasting effect on these celebrities is the ultimate fountain of youth, for discussions, that is, if not necessarily looks. And while TDS might not be a condition with scientific backing, the cases that parade before us offer amusement and a lesson in how political obsession can be as transformative as any Hollywood magic. Who would’ve thought that living a life of MAGA positivity and vitality is the secret to staying light in the mind, as well as in public life?
