Blagojevich Slams Pritzker: Sanctuary Politics Endanger Us All

Rod Blagojevich didn’t mince words on Newsmax when he blasted Governor J.B. Pritzker for what he called the political choice to coddle illegal aliens while Illinois families pay the price in blood and grief. Blagojevich argued that Pritzker was elected to keep people safe, not to run policies that leave law-abiding citizens vulnerable to preventable violence.

The outrage follows a horrific hit-and-run in Urbana that left Ohio University student Katie Abraham and her friend Chloe Polzin dead after a driver allegedly plowed into them at high speed. Authorities arrested and charged 29-year-old Julio Cucul Bol with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and reckless homicide.

Federal officials have even named a targeted enforcement effort after the victims, launching “Operation Midway Blitz” to go after criminal illegal aliens who exploit sanctuary policies to hide from immigration enforcement. That federal intervention is proof that state and local weakness creates gaps the feds must close when governors refuse to prioritize public safety.

Katie Abraham’s father has publicly lamented the silence and indifference he perceives from state leadership, saying he received no meaningful outreach from Governor Pritzker after his daughter’s death and accusing officials of choosing politics over common-sense protections. Families who lose children deserve real answers and accountability, not platitudes from elected elites who reflexively defend sanctuary policies.

While the legal system moves forward — and Cucul Bol ultimately accepted a plea that will keep him behind bars for decades — the bigger question remains: why do policies exist that make Illinois a magnet for dangerous people who ought to be denied entry or promptly removed? The tragic reality is conservatives have warned for years that soft-on-enforcement sanctuary rules hand criminals a shield and put everyday Americans at risk.

Enough talk. Candidates and officials who insist on sanctuary for its own sake should be called out and replaced with leaders who will coordinate with ICE, secure borders, and restore strict enforcement so grieving parents stop becoming the clearest evidence of failed policy. Hardworking Americans deserve a government that answers to their safety first — not a political class that excuses the consequences of its own decisions.
