Hollywood star Blake Lively is using her wealth and power to silence ordinary Americans who dared to criticize her online. The actress has unleashed her army of lawyers to subpoena YouTubers, bloggers, and social media creators who covered her legal fight with actor Justin Baldoni. This is exactly what’s wrong with our two-tiered justice system.
Lively sued Baldoni last December claiming sexual harassment on their movie set. When Baldoni fought back with his own lawsuit, it was thrown out of court in June. But instead of moving on, Lively decided to go after regular people who simply talked about the case online.
Her legal team demanded Google hand over personal information about content creators like Andy Signore, Katie Paulson, and Kjersti Flaa. These aren’t major news outlets or powerful media companies. They’re independent journalists and YouTubers trying to make a living by covering entertainment news.
One creator, Lauren Neidigh, says Lively is using intimidation and harassment tactics to silence anyone with unfavorable opinions. Neidigh had to ask a judge for protection because she fears Lively will keep coming after her. The actress even demanded one creator reveal their anonymous sources just to drop the subpoena.
This is a direct attack on free speech and the First Amendment. When wealthy celebrities can use the courts to intimidate ordinary Americans into silence, we’re no longer living in a free country. Every patriotic American should be outraged by this abuse of our legal system.
The power imbalance here is staggering. Lively has millions of dollars and top-tier lawyers going after people who probably make a few thousand dollars from their YouTube channels. She’s trying to bankrupt these creators with legal fees just for having opinions she doesn’t like.
This case shows how the elite use lawsuits as weapons against working-class Americans. If we let Hollywood stars silence critics with legal threats, what’s next. Will politicians start subpoenaing anyone who posts negative comments on social media.
We must stand with these content creators and defend their right to speak freely. Contact your representatives and demand they protect independent journalists from celebrity bullying. Our Constitution guarantees free speech, but only if we’re willing to fight for it.
