Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City and failed presidential candidate, is making waves once again by throwing $200,000 at San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s reelection campaign. The money comes straight from Bloomberg’s deep pockets and goes to Forward Action AF, a political group showing its support for Breed’s reelection bid.

Now, this isn’t the first time these two mayors have done each other favors. Breed endorsed Bloomberg during his laughable attempt at the White House in 2020, where he tried to pass himself off as a centrist who could woo both parties. Yeah, right. And now, Breed is trying to pull off the same stunt, but let’s just say, the jury’s still out on that one.
Breed’s leadership has been a hot topic, especially among the more progressive Democrats. They’re not too happy about her tough stance on crime and homelessness. She’s even trying to pass a bill that would cut off welfare benefits for anyone dealing with substance abuse who isn’t actively seeking treatment. Some people are cheering her on, like Tesla bigwig Elon Musk, but the liberals and homeless advocates are having a fit, dragging her through the mud and linking her policies to those of us right-leaners.
Apparently, Breed thinks Bloomberg’s track record of being tough on crime during his time as mayor, and whatever he’s been up to since, makes him a real stand-up guy. And she’s not the only one getting a sugar rush from big donors like Bloomberg. Mimi Haas, the mother of Breed’s opponent, Daniel Laurie, who fancies himself as the Levi Strauss heir, has thrown a ridiculous $1 million at a political group supporting her son’s campaign.
Sure, there’s a whole bunch of folks peeking around the corner, eyeing Breed’s job, but right now, it looks like it’s just Breed, Laurie, San Francisco Supervisor Asha Safai, and Shahram Shariati, a transportation engineer, making any real moves.
Well, folks, it looks like the political circus is in town, and with big spenders like Bloomberg and Haas tossing their cash around, it’s going to be one heck of a show in San Francisco.
